The intimate habits of couples are the glue that holds a relationship together. Healthy relationships are beautiful and are great to have, but certain things have to keep the relationship alive. I’d like to say that these things are what we have come to know as intimate habits of couples.
Ever wondered why some relationships last longer than others? Wonder why some couples never lose their spark? You might be asking yourself all these questions and many more without sometimes getting the perfect answers to them.

When we understand that regular practice of showing love and being loved back in return is the secret to many beautiful relationships out there, it will sound like a lie, but it is true.
I will be sharing strong relationship tips for us to engage in and get things back on track if they have not been going well. On the other hand, if things have been moving smoothly, don’t stop doing the right things you’ve been doing all this while. Upgrade, keep it simple, and be happy.
1. They Trust Each Other

Trust is the new sexy in town. If you are looking for the habits of couples in strong and healthy relationships, this is one of them. This may sound unimportant, but the absence of it has led to a toxic atmosphere in many relationships. This is the ability of one partner to believe in the reliability of the other.
There is this sense of confidence that comes with the feeling of knowing, “my partner has my back.” Not only does it bring confidence, but it also brings peace.
Trusting each other on all levels open both partners to a new dimension of love in their relationship. Intimacy and trust go hand in hand. Intimacy doesn’t come only when in the bedroom. What makes a good relationship is the ability to trust each other on key things. This is a top-secret that has lasted decades.
2. They Communicate

You must have read and heard this a thousand times; communication is key. Indeed, communication is vital in any form of relationship. The lack of it has brought tremendous damage. Couples who take time to talk about everything stay together, because there are simply no secrets.
Talking is as important as listening. We should learn to listen and comprehend, not just reply to our partners. The intimate habits of couples include honest communication between partners.
Talk about matters that are sensitive to you, and in return, your partner will listen. Occasionally, all we want aren’t answers, we just need a person to listen to us.
That someone who will make us feel heard. Sadly, most people in their relationships feel they are alone because of the lack of proper communication. One of the early signs of a good relationship is the ability to let your partner know how you feel and hopefully, they get to understand you.
Communication is complex, it constitutes the skills of effective listening, comprehension, and replying to your partner rightly. These are just a few mentioned.
You have to be aware that words can break a heart, as they can also make a heart merry. The body language accompanied by a harsh or soft tone is still a part of communication. Love thrives more in an area where it can freely express itself, sometimes, beyond words.
3. Embrace Imperfections

No one on earth is perfect because we all have flaws. Some healthy relationship characteristics include the ability to accept your partner’s imperfections and loving them.
Any relationship that has refused to accept its imperfections and work on them, will utterly fail. Intimacy comes when we embrace reality. Some couples fail to make room for reality.
If we merely accept the truth that we are humans and as humans, we make mistakes, it will leave less room for disappointments. Although the mistakes might not be intentional, some will hurt more than others. Does that mean we quit?
4. Forgiveness Is A Part Of Their Relationship

No lifelong relationship between any couple has survived without forgiveness. If there are intimate habits of couples that anyone should want, then, it should be the ability to forgive your partner for their wrongdoings.
To forgive means love is present in the heart. You want to avoid carrying around resentment and hatred toward your spouse, don’t you? If we practice this habit of forgiving each other daily, we’d feel more love in the atmosphere.
Are there times it will be difficult to forgive? Yes. Remember, if they forgave you, it’s only right that you did the same too.
5. They Care Deeply About Each Other

We tend to misunderstand the concept of care in our relationships. We narrow it down to just providing “stuff” for our lovers alone. Others even treat their partners as “objects.” In a relationship where care is lacking, one will feel humiliated.
This might be difficult to take in, but some folks care more for their properties than for their spouses. Embrace the habit of meeting your partner’s basic needs in all areas of life. All your partner might need from you is the gift of your presence and not presents.
That is simply caring for them. I’d like to say that it should go both ways as well. To care in a relationship means to communicate your feeling of love to them. This act comes naturally and cannot be faked.
Check around your neighborhood for habits of successful couples, and you will notice that, caring for each other has been part of their lifestyle for years. Not once have they neglected their partner, especially in trying situations.
6. They Have Fun Together

Intimate habits of couples include having fun together. “All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy.” We are conversant with that phrase of work, right? Life can throw things at people that will require them to work twice as much as they used to before.
At this point, it is normal for us to want to conform to the demands, and that is ok to do. But at the expense of that comes a lesser time with your loved one. This simply means increased time away from them. However, this can lead to less intimacy in your relationship.
Whatever you guys do for fun should be marvelous, as long as you both enjoy engaging in the activity with each other. Isn’t that the objective? Time should be made available unanimously, and both of you should get together to appreciate yourselves for how hard you both have been working.
That means having fun together. The word, “fun” is relative as we move from one couple to the other. Whatever it means to you guys, engage more in it together. Deeply connected couples become more intertwined with each other when they have fun together.
7. They Both Value Each Other

To value someone means the person is important and useful to you. However, in most romantic relationships, we allow the thought of, “they will always be here” to creep in and make us take them for granted.
With love comes the idea of priority. This means that whatever we love, we place them high on our list. Wonderful habits of healthy couples include the ability for them to value each other.
Chances are, we tell our lover in words that we value and appreciate them but in actions, it is nothing near our words. Celebrate each other’s victory and encourage yourselves to get better. Isn’t that what relationships are for? More intimacy is created with every step taken together.
8. They Speak Words Of Affirmation To Each Other

Words have a pivotal role to play in romantic relationships because they are useful. Words of affirmation are a significant aphrodisiac for couples that use them often. Practice using verbal compliments on each other during the day and whenever you meet each other.
If there are any intimate habits of couples to learn, it should be letting your partner know how dear they are to you. This has proven to be useful over time because of its effectiveness. Intimacy comes when we speak more sweet words to each other.
It doesn’t always have to end in sex, but if it does, there is absolutely nothing wrong with that. Nothing is more intimate than expressing your love for your partner using the precise words they yearn to hear.
9. They Always Offer Apology When Wrong

Making peace in your relationship after any rift should never take long. The longer it is left, the deeper the roots of the issues. It’s one thing to apologize, and it is another to mean it. Making it a habit of saying we are sorry when wrong will ease the tension created earlier on.
Of what use is an apology if the same thing will be repeated? All I’m trying to communicate to us is that we should mean the words we speak, and try to stay away from repeating the same mistake.
The idea of “I apologized the last time, so I won’t now,” has ruined many relationships than you can ever think of. As humans, we know when we’ve wronged our spouse, detest letting your ego get the better of you.
Saying the words, “I am sorry” has never ruined anyone nor taken anything away from them, but never saying those words, has taken everything meaningful they have ever worked for with their lover.
10. They Keep in Touch With Each Other

Keeping in touch with each other during the day is what improves a good relationship. Oftentimes, we get engrossed in what we are doing that we forget to call or text our lover during the day. A simple text message or call from your lover can reduce stress.
Make it a habit and watch the wonderful results that will come out of it. Random calls or text messages are little ways of telling our loved ones that we are thinking of them even at work.
11. They Make Compromise

We all at some point have had to meet our spouse halfway on something. As humans, we have differences and some of those differences, if not managed well, could negatively affect the relationship. When the need arises, and we feel we can live with the compromise comfortably, why not give it a try?
Once, a couple said to me, “We may not always see eye to eye on all issues, but for most of it, we someway find a way around it.” Such relationships that emulate this style will last long.
12. They Both Find Time For their Kids/Pet

It’s so beautiful to see both parents care for their kids from a place of mutual love. One mother once said to me, “I feel more loved when my husband plays with our son at the same time as I am, too.” To her, she finds it very pleasing when her husband plays with their kid as she is doing so.
Little things matter. It will not only make her happy, but the child will also be happy as well. Wonderful intimate habits of couples include sharing family time with the kids. That’s one true sign of a healthy relationship.
13. They Don’t Argue To Win

In the middle of a heated argument could come words that would break one’s heart. We tend to think that only words can break hearts. Actions can do that too.
Being a couple doesn’t mean we have to lose our personalities. With certain differences, would come arguments of whose view is better than the other. In such cases, winning the argument at the detriment of your relationship isn’t worth it. The goal should be to come to a consensus.
14. They Embrace Their Differences And Not Just Their Similarities

Seldom do you see couples who like the same thing on all levels, right? Movies tend to show less reality in the stories shown. It is ok to totally be different from your spouse and still be at peace with each other.
We can still be distinct and still have unity only if we acknowledge this truth. Intimate habits of couples that have enabled them last long together include this golden rule.
15. They Accept Each Other’s Family

Marriage is between two people, but our families are sometimes a part of the picture. Severing ties with one’s in-laws when they’ve done nothing wrong wouldn’t sit well with your spouse.
If a relationship has to stand strong, we have to accept our in-laws. There is a difference between accepting them and letting them control your marriage.
However, giving honor to whom it is due, has always been a wonderful rule to stand by. It’s so endearing to see your lover bonding with your family and vice versa.
Conclusion
Intimacy doesn’t come easily neither does it come without spending time with each other. But is it worth it? Always. This is a practice we should get used to in other to progress happily as we age with our lover.
