5 Ways To Improve Self-Esteem

Sharing is caring!

In today’s article, I will be writing about how to boost your self-esteem, and I needn’t stress how vital this topic is. In other words, it can negatively affect an individual’s entire life if nothing is done immediately.

It is easy to lose confidence and not know what to do about it. However, a person who has lost their confidence may want to quickly do something about it because they do not like the person they have become.

And I can understand because I have been there myself. But, unfortunately, sometimes, you may feel like a shadow of yourself, and it may get worse that even the people close to you will start to notice it.

how to overcome low self esteem

Self-esteem is confidence in one’s own worth or abilities. And there is nothing more demeaning than not believing in your own abilities. So, that means that your thought pattern will be governed or flooded by doubts.

And we all know what it means to doubt your abilities; you will be unstable in all you do. Furthermore, that will add more fuel to the fire, and you will be at your lowest point.

So, it is paramount that we write about how to boost your self-esteem. Perhaps you are currently going through that challenge, or you know someone who is. In any case, this article will be of immense help. So, join me as I write about how to boost your self-esteem

1.  Work On The Inside First

How to build confidence and self-esteem first is to begin the work from the inside. In other words, anything done first without starting from the inside will be an effort in futility. And it would be best if you did not waste your time and energy on something that will not yield fruit. So that is why I opted to start with this point.

We all know how powerful the human mind is. And we are told that as we think in our hearts, so are we. So if we believe that to be true, and of course it is true, all efforts must be made to erase any wrong mindset you may have. I may tell you that you are champion and powerful, but if you have a wrong mindset that tells you what I said is untrue, you will still believe you are a loser.

I only decided to take that route so you could see how powerful your thoughts are. I needed you to see how important what you think about yourself is. So, no matter what another person thinks, how good or beautiful you are, if you think otherwise about yourself, what you believe will stand.

For instance, no one can eat food on your behalf and help you get satisfied. It is the same way that no matter how wonderful I think you are, it will not stand if you think or feel negative about yourself.

So, one of the first ways how to improve your self-esteem as a woman is to start the work from the inside. Get up in the morning, look in the mirror, and say, “Good morning, gorgeous lady.” Over time, you will begin to believe the words coming out of your mouth, and they will reshape your mindset.

2.  Go Out With Positive People

Again, you can boost your self-esteem by going out with positive people. Who will associate with is so powerful that it can either make us better or mar us. And what makes this more fun is that not everyone can be our friends.

But on the other hand, many people will come seeking your friendship. So again, it even gets better because, as humans, we have been blessed with the ability to choose. Oh, how I love that!

We often don’t know how blessed we are, so we allow all kinds of junk into our space. But, listen, folks, never underestimate your power to choose – it is your God-given ability.

Someone once said that even on your social media feed, if you don’t like what you see, change the people who follow you or the ones you follow. So, refuse to get stuck with bad visuals or any information or imagery threatening your self-esteem.All aspects of your life are essential, so you must choose to hang out with positive people, whether online or in person.

Words are extremely powerful and can help us get better or slip us to our lowest point. So, you must guard your heart. Now you see how related this point is to our first one. If all the people you hang out with do not see the positive side of life, you will undoubtedly lose your confidence and see things as they are painted. Words paint pictures, and you view them with your mind.

So it would help if you surrounded yourself with those who believe in themselves because there is an old saying: birds of a feather flock together. So, over time, you will begin to believe in yourself because all you have heard from the people around you is how they believe in themselves and do not care about the negative things people say or think about them.

Finally, a ship doesn’t sink because of the water around it. It only sinks when the water from the outside gets into it. So, do not let the negative things people say about you bring you down because people must talk about you. Instead, sail on it, and you will reach your destination undisturbed. So this is how to boost your self-esteem.

3.  Accept Your Flaws

how to build confidence and self esteem

Accepting the reality of things is perhaps one of the most extraordinary things you may do for yourself. But first, there is a thin line between reality and a lie. They may look like identical twins, but the fact remains that they are different. And interestingly, with great discernment, you can tell their differences no matter how difficult it may be.

As humans, no one has it all, and as a result, we have flaws. No matter how perfect you think a person is, you will see their flaws if you get the chance to get closer to them.

They may have accepted that flaw, probably in their appearance, and choose not to be bothered by it. And I should say this now. Any flaw in your character can be worked on if you are intentional about it and genuinely want a better character.

But, there are some things we worry about that we have little or no power to change. And we allow that to kill our confidence. Most times, they have to do with our outward appearance. You know, things like the size of one’s nose, height, hair loss, and other things that we feel would make us look prettier or more handsome if they were this or that way.

Quit focusing on all that and accept how you have appeared. What you may not know is that there is someone out there who wants to be like you. And what is more interesting is that there is someone who will love you genuinely the way you are. To that person, you are their world and their dream person. So focus on what makes you feel beautiful or handsome and be thankful.

In other words, how to boost your self-esteem is to accept your shortcomings and turn them into your advantage. And when you accept yourself for who and what you are, you will have no room for insecurity.

4.  Don’t Compare

Comparison is one thing that kills a person faster than any other thing I have seen in life. But unfortunately, it is the most enormous room that accommodates all forms of insecurity.

But many of us can’t help but compare ourselves with others around us. And anyone who lives like this is unwise and will soon reach a dead end. So, how to overcome low self-esteem is to avoid such.

Will you feel the urge to do that? Of course, you will. But each time it comes, remember that you are unique and one of a kind. And if you believe it, you must not compete with anyone to prove a point that you are better-looking or smarter. We are all unique in our own ways, and we must believe that and be happy with it.

You will never be void of insecurities if you continue on this path. So, to be happy and confident, tell yourself you are not competing with anyone.

5.  Celebrate Your Progress

how to boost your self esteem

So if you are thinking of how to boost your self-esteem, try to celebrate your progress. When you have more reasons to celebrate, you will have less time to think about negativity.

And interestingly, you will detest all forms of negativity because you have tasted progress and positivity, and you know what it feels like to win. And I have never met anyone who doesn’t like to win. So, this will get you to concentrate on your next big or small project because you want to celebrate.

My primary reason for including this is to let you see the need that it pays more to celebrate your progress, no matter how insignificant you may think they are. There is not one person who hasn’t had to go through challenges.

And they must come, especially when you want to make progress. So, it would be best to acknowledge the challenges you have overcome. They may include bad habits or toxic traits you changed, positive things you have developed in yourself, and many more. So, whatever they may be, each step in the right direction is progress and should be celebrated. This is how to boost your self-esteem.

6.  Read Books And Apply The Principles

There are many things you can learn by reading a good book. And please do so in areas you are struggling with or trying to change because it will help you more. Interestingly, the author may have even gone through the same thing you are facing now.

So it even gets more interesting when he gives you steps to overcome the challenge and become victorious. It is one thing to read a book and another to apply the principles learned from the book.

There is always a need to apply what you may have learned because what use is knowledge if unused? I will always recommend that you read books from authors with a proven track record. That way, you know that they are not just saying stuff, but they are sharing from their vast bank of knowledge gained through several series of trials.

There are many books to select from, and with just one click, you will have them. I decided to add that because some may be too lazy to go to a bookstore.

So, if you want to know how to improve your self-esteem, get a book that speaks on that. Or, if you want to know how to build confidence in speaking, there are millions of books to pick from. So, do not deny yourself this fantastic chance.

7.  Learn New Skills

how to boost your self esteem

I can’t stress this enough to you. We live in a time where you can learn about almost anything with just a click of a button. Therefore, you should aspire to be the best version of yourself.

Whatever will add value to your life and make you a better person should be what you are going after. Suppose you are a business or a career person, as often as you can attend seminars that will add value to your life. You may learn about something you didn’t know about in your field.

You must remember that there is always room to get better. You can enrol in a baking class, take dance lessons, develop any other talent, or even learn a new language. Interestingly, you will never lose anything when you go the extra for yourself.

8.  Take Extra Care Of Yourself

If you don’t care for yourself, who will? Nobody on earth will take care of you better than how you take care of yourself. So this is a good enough reason to take good care of yourself. Besides, you know your needs more than anyone else, so do yourself a favour and treat yourself nicely.

You must not be a millionaire before you take care of yourself. So many think the millions will get it done for you. But it is all about the level you are at in life. Self-care is taking care of your physical needs and not having millions in your account.

You know, like using the right products that help your skin glow. And frankly, it doesn’t require having millions in your bank account.
Additionally, eating good food, sleeping well at night, and relaxing don’t cost so much money, right?

9.  Deal With Reality

how to improve self confidence

A while ago, I spoke about a little bit of reality. Now, here is another side of the coin. So many of us want to be liked by everyone we meet. And to be honest, who wouldn’t like that? But let’s tell ourselves the truth. Not everyone you meet will like you.

Another thing to note is that you cannot please everyone around you. So you must prepare your mind because many will hate you. After all, you didn’t please them, and be cool with that so long as you are at peace with yourself.

You must come to terms with the fact that you are not on earth to please them. So it is ok if you don’t live up to their expectations and live in peace. After all, isn’t peace what we are after?

10.  Reward Yourself

Finally, rewarding yourself is on the list of how to boost your self-esteem. No matter what may come your way, you must remember that you have reached this far. And you didn’t come this far by luck. So you should be your number one friend and reward yourself.

The little things that matter a lot to you should be what you get or do for yourself. Sincerely, it will mean a lot to you. So this is how to build self-confidence.

I am optimistic that you will smile if you do these 10 things to boost your self-confidence. Lastly, we discussed this topic because we understand how vital it is to our lives.
