Can we have a successful and happy day without having productive morning routines? Certainly not. How you begin your day will always have a significant impact on the result of that day. Sadly, many people are unaware of this simple yet profound truth. And this is just a fragment of what separates winners from those who do not win.

Having sat and discussed with various successful and happy people, the one thing I have discovered that they do is summed up in the following few words: always have effective morning routines.

And seeing the results in their lives makes it difficult not to believe them. So, having discovered this, I have realised that how you begin your day will always determine what you get out of it.

Am I saying that challenges won’t come? Certainly not, but your response to those challenges will be the defining moment because of how you have groomed yourself with your morning routines. In other words, when life gives you lemons, make lemonade. So, come with me as we explore some truths you will find helpful.

1.  Wake Up Early

morning habits

One good morning routine we all should have if we want to be in the category that makes their day count is waking up early. It might sound funny and inconsequential, but it is the truth. Benjamin Franklin once said, “early to bed, early to rise, makes a man healthy, wealthy, and wise.” This quote says it all, and I am pretty confident we might have said the exact words at some point.

No one could have said it better than Benjamin Franklin because happiness in some way will be found in a person’s life that possesses all three qualities.

For us to be happy and effective, we must first feel good about ourselves, especially on the inside, because that’s part of the secret to unlocking our potential.

Unfortunately, we often neglect this and just hit the ground running. Listen, waking up early helps our brains function better, and our immune system isn’t left out either. Without these two vital aspects functioning optimally, what do you think will be the outcome for such a person?

  • For us to be happy and effective, we must first feel good about ourselves, especially on the inside.

In summary, one perfect morning routine that happy and productive people always do is to wake up early, and I sure hope you are ready to be in this category.

2.  Gratitude Practice

If I may ask, what comes to your mind when you hear the word “gratitude”? There are many things for me, but one always stands out, and here is it; “gratitude is a powerful catalyst for happiness. It’s the spark that lights a fire of joy in your soul.”

Often, many people start their day on a negative note. They are so oblivious to the power of what we are discussing here, and sadly, they have had to suffer the consequences of their actions. Gratitude is a feeling of thankfulness or appreciation for the good things in your life. For a moment, kindly imagine someone who begins their day with ingratitude. Do you think such a person would be happy?

There are times when yesterday’s defeat might still be fresh in your memory, which might cause you to begin your day on that negative frequency. The truth is, you will seldom get a different result from what you got the previous day.

So, the best thing to do is to change your approach entirely. Someone once told me that if you don’t like what’s been shown on a particular channel, use your remote control to change it to something different. Perhaps you will find something you like on that new channel.

Guess what? Practising gratitude is your remote control in this case. So, I recommend practising gratitude as part of the healthy morning routines because the antidote to resentment is gratitude.

3.  Mindfulness or Meditation

I wish I could stress this enough for you to understand its power. How you begin your day will significantly affect the results you get and your happiness as well. It’s always vital to take a few minutes to practice mindfulness or meditation to centre oneself and set a positive tone for the rest of the day.

How do you see your day going? What do you see yourself achieving? I must say that images – having positive images instilled in your mind is also a part of the practice. So, focusing on these images can propel you to get the desired results as you go about your daily business.

On the other hand, mindfulness will help you stay aware of what you are feeling or sensing throughout the day. In other words, it allows us to stay in the moment and not just react to things or annoying people but to respond appropriately.

If you are still searching for morning routine ideas for a happier start to your day, how about you begin with this?

4.  Healthy Breakfast

Another part of my favourite morning routine is having a very healthy breakfast. Good food just has a way of making someone happy, especially when it is beautiful to the eyes and delicious, too. Then, it is safe to say that it is a win-win situation.

I discovered that people who skip breakfast start the day slowly, which can alter many things. What’s better than filling your body with a healthy or nutritious breakfast to provide your body with the necessary energy and nourishment needed for that day?

Sadly, many people demand things from themselves when they have not done what their bodies need—in this case, treating themselves to a fantastic breakfast.

I wish I could lay more emphasis on this point, but if you didn’t get anything, let this sink into you: “Eating healthy keeps one going for long.” So, why not start with a nutritious breakfast? Because our bodies will look like what we are feeding them.

5.  Exercise

Closely related to the previous point is yet another point that is as important as its predecessor. How often do you engage in any form of exercise? As much as you should be mentally ready for whatever the day may bring, you should also be physically fit. One of my best morning routines is exercising, and I’ll tell you why.

Undoubtedly, numerous benefits are attached to morning exercise, and some research backs this up. One of my favourites is that it enhances our mood, and I need not tell you how this can significantly impact your day.

Interestingly, it also gives a better focus. If you are wondering how exercising in the morning affects us, it gives us a chance to clear our heads and reflect on the day ahead while sweating out any impurities housed in our bodies.

Doesn’t that sound like someone ready to be happy and make their day count? So, exercising is one of the best morning routines you should never shy away from. Lastly, did you know that morning exercise can also help you eat healthier, boosting your energy throughout the day? So, exercising and having a nutritious breakfast goes hand in hand.

6.  Plan your day

For those who really want to get the best out of their day, this is something they cannot do without. Of course, there are several reasons why many people do this, and I will mention a few in a bit.

Before I do that, please permit me to use one of the quotes from Benjamin Franklin, and I am sure you might have heard about it, too. He said, “Failing to plan is planning to fail.” Frankly, I couldn’t agree more because arguing with those who already have the results you don’t have is useless.

One of my best morning routines is planning my day before it begins because it helps me be more productive, organised and focused. All of those things bring satisfaction, and that results in happiness at the end of the day.

So, taking a few moments to review your schedule and setting intentions for the day is never old-fashioned. Interestingly, that can help you feel more organised and in control of your day. Isn’t that what we all want?

7.  Limit Screen Time

best morning routine

Many people will not agree with this, especially if they are addicted to their phones. Instead, they will always find reasons to justify their actions, but that’s a story for another day. One of my all-time favourites regarding morning routines is this one, and I will let you know why.

With just a tap on your phone, you have access to all kinds of things, and many do not know that the contents they consume can detect what the rest of their day will be like. Bad news travels faster than good news, and that’s a hard pill to swallow. Likewise, social media platforms aren’t exempted from carrying bad news.

They usually have more engagements, and it seems the world is waiting for something terrible to happen, so they feed on it. But will you dare to be different?

  • Many do not know that the contents they consume can detect what the rest of their day will be like.

There is more stress than ever, so why add to that when you can be the change? I am trying to say that you should avoid checking your computer or phone first thing in the morning to reduce stress.

However, it would help if you remembered that your mental health is essential. So, never forget that this is one of the healthy morning routines you shouldn’t get tired of in a hurry.

8.  Positive Affirmations

Words are powerful, and I am sure you already know that. What others say about you may not really matter, unlike what you say to yourself. Happy people know this truth and continue the practice because of the results they keep getting.

Furthermore, it would interest you to know that we have an entire blog post on positive affirmations. That’s because we know how powerful it is and want you to get your desired results. Anyway, the article is titled 75 Powerful Affirmations For Self-Love, and I’d love for you to read it.

  • Whether it is failure or success, sadness or happiness, they first start from the fellow’s mind.

Words, especially ours, have a way of shaping our mindset. And I need not tell you how important it is to have the right mindset. Whether it is failure or success, sadness or happiness, they first start from the fellow’s mind.

So, to boost your self-confidence and cultivate a positive mindset, practice positive affirmations as you start your day. This is one of the best morning routines anyone could engage in for a happier start to their day.

9.  Take A Shower In The Morning

My best morning routine is taking a shower. I mean, how could anyone not want to take a shower? This might sound inconsequential, but its power is undeniable. Self-care is an essential part of our lives, and I must say that it is one of the most underrated self-care ideas, as I mentioned earlier.

But before I go any further, I’d like you to read my blog post, 50 Self-Care Ideas for a Bad Day, for more self-care ideas.
Among the numerous morning habits that people do, the most underrated is taking a shower, and I seem not to fathom why.

However, I do know that a morning shower can help you feel fresh and ready for the day ahead. Whether it is a cold or hot water shower, they benefit the body. Isn’t that what we all want?

For those of us who are fans of a cold shower, keep doing what’s best for you and those who love hot or warm showers, don’t stop doing so. The goal is to be refreshed and ready to have a happier start to the day.

Finding the perfect morning routine does not have to be a challenge. So, simple steps to improve daily can ultimately increase your happiness and productivity in the long run.

The secret is consistency. Incorporating these simple morning habits can help you have the best morning ever and achieve the perfect start to your day. Even if you only adopt one of these habits into your mornings, you will be amazed by the positive results you will get.

So, amongst all that I have briefly discussed, which is the best morning routine you won’t leave out? Feel free to share your thoughts in the comment section below. Of course, there are many more morning routines, but I decided to write about these because of how effective they have been for me, and I trust they will work for you, too.
